CloudTrucks Product Film

CloudTrucks is a powerful mobile app that makes it easier and more profitable for truck owner-operators to manage their trucking businesses. Their app features have transformed complex tasks like quoting, negotiating, and booking estimates for loads into simple, straightforward motions.

The need

We met CloudTrucks in mid-2021 while they were preparing for two product launches and they asked our team to produce their first vision film. The timing was perfect to create a video that introduced their unique product and mission—a mobile app platform that makes owning a trucking business easier and more profitable for owner-operators.

The tone that led the video was set from the beginning by Cloudtrucks’ CEO Tobenna Arodiogbu. Although he isn’t a driver himself, Tobenna created the CloudTrucks app from a place of service and with the intention to help truck owner-operators. So, he aimed to produce an honest and authentic interview-style video.

Phase 1

Creative Development

We began this project by hosting several brainstorming sessions with Tobenna and CloudTrucks’ growth marketing leader, Michele Pendergast. They were key members of the creative development process.

Tobenna came with the main topics in mind for the focus of the video. We collaborated together to finalize those and decide how to present CloudTruck’s vision and mission.

Phase 2

Pre Production

Once the story and tone were confirmed, we moved into pre-production and agreed on a schedule to guide us through the various production phases.

First, we began by creating a treatment and beat sheet with 11 beats to outline our interview with Tobenna. We all agreed on the importance of having a casual conversation with him to make it feel as organic as possible. To accomplish this, we utilized the story beats to frame the conversation while we kept questions natural and unscripted.

The most challenging part of the pre-production process was figuring out how to explain the backend of the app while also showing how drivers use it in their daily lives. To incorporate the practical element, we worked with the CloudTrucks team to find a driver that could bring the app to life. Through our search, we found Omari Peterson to portray the role of a truck driver and CloudTrucks user. We were especially interested in capturing him and his truck on the road, so we agreed on the route and locations we’d join him for. Lastly, we confirmed Cloudtruck’s office as our main location for the interview.

During this phase, we also worked on:

  • Planning the shot list

  • Creating a call sheet

  • Implementing a Covid protocol

  • Requesting image release

Phase 3

Filming

In practice of COVID restrictions and precautions, we shot the film in one day with a three-person crew. We started with Tobenna’s interview at CloudTrucks’ main office, which consisted of a 45-minute conversation with our Director Gary. During the interview, Tobenna looked straight into the camera via an eyeline prompter. We also got b-roll shots of him in his daily routine.

Then, we met with our truck driver Omari. As we went on the road with him, we recorded shots of him driving the truck and using CloudTruck’s app. We didn’t capture sound for these shots since we intended to capture moments in his daily routine that would fit into the main narrative.

We shot everything with one high-end camera and different focal length lenses.

Phase 4

Post Production

The video editing took five full days for the first cut and the music. We ended up making three video revisions, getting actionable feedback after each round. After the final cut was finished, we started color correction and sound mixing. We continued to make adjustments up until we ended with the final master video.

The Deliverable

The final video was a 2:31 vision film. The film is currently featured on CloudTruck’s website and Product Hunt as a part of their launch strategy for two new products, Flex and CT Cash. We appreciate the opportunity to bring CloudTrucks’ story to life as they grow and make the lives of truckers better.

CloudTrucks Costumer Story Films

The Need

After creating the Vision Film as a part of their launch strategy for two new products, CloudTrucks’ growth marketing leader, Michele Pendergast, contacted us to produce two Customer Story films that would show the real impact that CloudTrucks have on the truck owner-operators’ daily lives.

As with the Vision Film, our goal here was again to produce honest and authentic interview-style videos, but this time, do them from the perspective of the user to emphasize that transformation that Cloudtrucks has brought to the truck owner-operators way of working.

Phase 1

Creative Development

Our creative development started with some truck owner-operators profiles suggested by the Cloudtrucks team. We interviewed all of them until we found the correct fitting for leading these videos. Once finished, we made our proposal to the Cloudtrucks team and we received their approval to move forward with our cast.

Phase 2

Pre Production

We started pre-production with organized in-deep interviews with our confirmed cast to understand the best ways to tell their stories. From there, our director Gary Lundgren, wrote a script for each video based on those interviews.

Phase 3

Filming

We created our schedule, our shot lists, call sheets and organized our trip to Milwaukee to start filming with Jason and then to Oregon for filming Al and Jennifer.

We had two filming days with each, which were divided into the main interviews, the b-roll and the aerial filming with the truck on the road.

It was so much fun to be able to capture their daily lives on the road!

“The Olivine Films team understood how big these product launches were for us and delivered an exceptional video to accompany them. They handled and executed the project with genuine care, thoughtfulness, and delight. I appreciated their approach to everything and loved working with them.”
